Depression

Depression can often be triggered by traumatic life events and is signified by a feeling of detachment and hopelessness. Sufferers may feel that there is no point to life and may struggle with negative thoughts, sadness, feeling numb and in severe cases, self-harm or even suicide.


 

 

Depression is one of the most common forms of mental distress

Around 1 in 6 people will experience depression at some point in their lives. It can often be caused by our life experiences such as a breakdown of a relationship, the birth of a child (known as post natal depression) or bereavement but often there is no specific cause. If you are feeling depressed it can feel as though you are struggling to cope with everyday life and that it is a huge effort just to keep your head above water. You may feel sad or have a low mood, have trouble sleeping, have no energy or enthusiasm, suffer with physical aches and pains, lose interest in everyday life or struggle to make decisions.
