We all feel anxious or fearful from time to time and most people have experienced that feeling of anxious butterflies when under pressure. In most cases, short term anxiety can be useful, helping us to think quickly, feel more alert or enhance performance, but if anxiety becomes overwhelming or out of control, it can be emotionally and physically devastating.
Anxiety is your instinctive internal alarm system
Anxiety and fear are caused by the body responding with the ‘fight or flight’ mechanism, which is designed to protect you from danger by releasing hormones such as adrenaline, to enable you to run away from a threat, or to fight to save your life. This is useful when encountering wild animals or in an emergency, but in everyday life, feeling anxious when encountering things that are NOT a threat, such as social situations, a driving test, hospital appointments or public speaking, it can be severely limiting and cause more problems than it solves.
Hypnotherapy can help you to create calm
Hypnotherapy, NLP and EFT tapping deal directly with the causes of anxiety, not just the symptoms and with a skilled therapist, even severe anxiety can be gently healed and the sufferer taught to access their own inner resources.
