What does it mean to be hypnotised?

Hypnosis is a safe, natural state of relaxed focused awareness and increased concentration, almost like daydreaming. Healing by trance has been acknowledged in some form in almost every culture for centuries. This state is similar in nature to that achieved when we watch TV, drive or are absorbed in an activity. There is no definitive 'feeling' for hypnosis, and everybody experiences it in a different way, so it is common to feel simply very relaxed.

How does hypnotherapy work?

Hypnotherapy utilises techniques such as suggestion and visualisation to access and 'reprogram' the part of the mind causing the problem, enabling natural healing to take place. We all have a powerful 'unconscious' part of the mind, that stores all of your memories and experiences and is responsible for patterns of thought and behaviour. This process often works to our advantage but sometimes your mind may choose to deal with issues in a way that is problematic, causing issues in your daily life. Hypnotherapy is so effective as it works directly with the part of your mind causing the problem, allowing you to decide consciously what it is that you would like to happen instead and simply create a new or more useful way of your mind to achieve what you DO want.

Can everyone be Hypnotised?

Yes, if someone wants to be hypnotised, they can be. Hypnosis is a completely natural state of focused awareness, that we all experience many times a day without even noticing. We all enter a state of light trance whenever we drive a car, watch a movie, read a book or daydream. No one can be hypnotised against their will. Some people find it easier to relax and 'go with' the sensation than others and most people find that they simply feel very comfortable and relaxed and find the experience of being hypnotised to be enjoyable and pleasant.

Am I still in control when I am hypnotised?

Yes, you are in complete control at all times. The primary function of your unconscious mind is to protect you, and if any suggestion were to be made that you would not ordinarily agree with, you would return to full conscious awareness immediately. You will be able to hear and be aware of your surroundings and may just feel very comfortable and relaxed.

Is hypnotherapy suitable for everyone?

Most people respond very well to hypnosis and find the process to be a positive one, however some people may be more suited to other types of therapy such as EFT or NLP which are also extremely effective and can resolve even severe long term issues. These types of therapy don't require either hypnosis or even any kind of belief in the process. It's ok to be sceptical, it doesn't affect the outcome of the process and I will ensure that you will receive the best therapy suited to your individual needs.

How long does a hypnotherapy session last?

Your first session will usually last around 90 minutes as we need to get as much information about your individual circumstances as possible and also start you feeling better as soon as possible.

Subsequent sessions last around 60 minutes and I will often give you specific tasks or exercises to practice inbetween sessions. This allows you to reach your desired outcome much sooner.

Treatment duration depends on your individual circumstances, the severity of your symptoms, what you would like to achieve and other factors. Re-evaluations will be done to assess your progress throughout the therapy process and I aim to help you to achieve your desired outcomes within the shortest time suitable to your needs. Some issues can be resolved fairly quickly, other issues may take longer to achieve a complete resolution.

I see and treat a wide range of conditions and problems. Please visit my Services page for an extensive list of conditions and problems that are treatable with Hypnotherapy.

Yes. Even lifelong issues can be resolved with solution focused therapies such as hypnotherapy, EFT and NLP. Sometimes these therapies work where no other treatments have worked previously.

You are the best judge of how you are feeling and your feedback is essential to the therapy process. I aim for you to achieve measurable results with your issue so that you know yourself that you are feeling better and achieving the goals that you set out at the beginning of your therapy.

I ask that if you wish to cancel or reschedule your session to contact me with as much notice as possible so that your appointment can be offered to another client. Please allow at least 48 hours notice if at all possible and you can call or text me on 07952 101847 to arrange another appointment.
